![]() ![]() Trans fats and Heart Disease - Summary
There are indications that trans fats may lead to coronary heart disease: two systematic studies indicate (but do not prove) that trans fats increase the risk of heart disease. Other studies show that cholesterol ratio changes due to trans fat consumption indicate an increase in heart disease risk. However, singling out trans fats administratively seems to be overreaction. We suggest that eating out is a time of indulgence, where calories flow freely, and fruit and vegetables are scarce. Maybe New Yorkers should be forced by legislation to eat more vegetables and fruit, use olive oil as their only fat, and limit calories at each meal to 800... This may have a larger impact on heart disease that a one-time reduction in trans fat consumption! |
